Current known-issues

Please remember that this is beta and some bugs are inevitable. As we work towards an official release we hope to find and squash as many as possible. If you find more, feel free to comment here or email beta@agileagenda.com.

Here's the current list of known bugs we're working on.

  • When saving to agileagenda.com, some resource colors may be lost. (It may sound weird, but picking blues and greens will make this less likely.)
  • When saving to agileagenda.com, the "last modified" field may not always be correct.
  • The last task in a schedule sometimes takes more time than it's supposed to.
  • If you delete a task, and then create more, there are gaps in the task ID's
  • The AgileAgenda.com registration isn't working in some cases.

Thanks,
The AgileAgenda Team

Printing Support

The biggest planned feature is expanded printing for the next release. We're currently working on
  • Printing the GANTT schedules
  • Expanded print options (Paper size and other options)
  • Fitting more information onto each piece of paper
We've got an interesting way to show dependencies on the print outs (ever user a scheduling program with dozens of dependency lines spanning pages and not adding any value? we're fixing that.)

If you have any desires, needs, etc. on printing, now is a good time to voice those either in a comment here or in an email to beta@agileagenda.com

We'll be continuing to provide reports via PDF so you can easily save or print those reports, hopefully it's a useful feature.

After report printing we'll be working on a new resource-utilization view and an associated report so you can tell who does or doesn't have tasks assigned and when there are gaps.

After that it's bug-fixing, feature polishing, and a run to a 1.0 release.

New version posted

Version Label: 1.0Beta6
Build Number: 8
Release date
: October 16, 2007
Download from: http://www.agileagenda.com/download/index.html

Release notes:
  • AgileAgenda.com - The AgileAgenda.com web service has been completely revamped. Unfortunately, old clients will not be able to connect to the new service. All projects previously saved to the website should be available using the new service with the new client. (Email beta@agileagenda.com for any problems)
  • International Users: The date format is now configurable, you won't have to look at the backwards way Americans view dates :) The first time you run the application you will be prompted with a dialog requesting you to choose your desired format. You can later change this by selecting the Options->Preferences menu option. Currently there are 3 options, please email us if your preferred format isn't in there.
  • Schedule Zoom - On the schedule view, you can now expand or compress the timescale using a zoom slider in the toolbar.
  • Don't Start Until - You can now set a "don't start until" date for tasks. This will cause the schedule to not schedule a task until that date at the earliest. It can be useful for when some tasks rely on factors external to the schedule. To access this feature, click the "Edit Task" button on the task editor and select the "Move Later" option.
  • Custom Colors - You can now set custom colors for resources.
  • Milestone Percent Complete - Milestones now show a % complete that is an aggregation of all the tasks that make up the milestone.
  • Overall Percent Complete - On the summary screen there's now an overall % complete figure.

AgileAgenda for Linux?

I've been asked to whether or not AgileAgenda will support Linux. The answer is yes.

BUT... We have to wait until Adobe gets their act together with an AIR runtime for linux. It won't be available for the 1.0 AIR release, but should be available in the months after. As soon as we get a copy of the runtime that works on Linux, we'll be making any necessary changes and get it out there.

AgileAgenda.com service update

Later this week the AgileAgenda.com online service will be undergoing a major upgrade. At the same time we'll be releasing a new version of the software to work with the new service.

Unfortunately, older versions of AgileAgenda will no longer be able to access the online services. Older versions will still be able to work with local files as normal.

All projects saved to AgileAgenda.com will be fully backed up before the switch, and they will be automatically converted to the new format. To retrieve your projects, all you have to do is upgrade to the latest version of Agile Agenda. If, after the switch, you have any problems retrieving or saving your projects please email beta@agileagenda.com.

By upgrading the service we'll immediately gain a few benefits:
  • Support much larger project files
  • Improve file save & load times
In the future, this upgrade will allow us to implement additional features such as:
  • Store multiple versions of your projects with change-management.
  • A full access control list so you can decide exactly who can view or edit your schedule.
  • Provide a full Actionscript API for external developers
  • Create a much more involved "Developer's Client"
  • Data exchange with other services (BaseCamp, TRAC, Bugzilla, etc.)
  • Centrally manage license & subscription info
Stay tuned for more details.

Pricing Update

Over the past few weeks we've been watching the level of orders to help decide on potential demand and the pricing implications of that.

Good news: We've been selling more than expected.
Bad news: The release price has been increased.
Good news: The preorder discount has been raised to 45% off

Make sure to order soon to get the preorder special price. You can find out information on the preorder page.

New version posted

Version number: 1.0 Beta 5
Release Date: 10/07/2007

Notes:
  • Schedule calculation speed greatly improved. Previously a sample, complex 300 task project took 4.8 seconds to calculate on Win32. That same project now calculates in 1.7 seconds.
  • Cancel button on calculation screen. Ever make a schedule that can't be successfully calculated? This button can save you.
  • Further work to detect unsolvable schedules and present a warning.
  • Schedule bug fixed. Each task was straying by one extra hour. Over time, this could add up to a large error.
  • On the GANTT view, the headers always appear, even for short schedules.
  • Automatic Update - There is now an upgrade button on the initial screen that will check to make sure you're running the latest version, and upgrade you if not.

Known bugs

Here is a list of known bugs we're currently working on:
  • The last task in a schedule sometimes takes more time than it's supposed to.
  • Sometimes, the schedule calculation gets into an endless loop.
  • It's possible to make a circular dependency in the milestone interface which causes problems when calculating. (Task #1 depends on Task #2 which depends on Task #1)
  • There's been one report of a program crash, but we've been unable to reproduce it.
  • When a task takes less than a day, it's not clearly shown on schedules.

Problems?

I just got a report from a conference attendee with problems on the application.

If you're experiencing any, please leave a comment letting me know if it's runtime or install-time, what OS you're on, and if you've installed previous AIR beta / alpha versions.

If you've successfully installed and used it, I'd like to know that too!

Thanks,
-Marc
